Job Description
Mayo Clinic created Lucem Health in 2021 with its investor partners Rally Ventures and Commure (a General Catalyst company), along with the founding team. Our mission is to revolutionize care delivery through the practical application of clinical AI; our vision is a world in which clinicians detect problems before they become life threatening and patients get world class care, everywhere.
Our platform connects patient data from varied sources with powerful, clinically focused AI algorithms and other advanced tools. We deliver the insights generated by these tools seamlessly into clinical workflow: to the right stakeholder, in the right place, in the right context, at the right time. And we help clinicians and other stakeholders engage with, understand, trust, and adopt these tools so they see them as valuable partners that support better care and outcomes for patients. Lucem provides AI-enabled software solutions that deliver specific and measurable clinical value propositions and financial benefits to our customers.

We enable clinicians to detect problems before they become life-threatening and ensure world-class care for patients everywhere. Our platform provides AI-enabled software solutions that deliver specific and measurable clinical value propositions and financial benefits to our customers, which include health systems and life sciences companies.
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in developing our software products, specifically our Clinical AI, for healthcare provider organizations and life sciences companies.

- Lead the design and development of complex AI models, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and effectively integrated into our products in close collaboration with engineering and machine learning operations (MLOps) teams.
- Independently lead deep-dive investigations into model behavior, data quality, and performance anomalies to ensure the ongoing quality and impact of models in production.
- Drive technical excellence and standards across the team by contributing to best practices, performing high-impact code reviews, and serving as a senior technical resource for complex challenges.
- Contribute to the longer-term technical and modeling strategy by evaluating and championing new methods, tools, and architectures relevant to the product roadmap.
- Clearly communicate strategic insights, model findings, and recommendations to senior management, clinical experts, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in computer science, data science, statistics, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of delivering high-impact models within the healthcare, life sciences, or a related regulated industry.
- Expert-level programming skills in Python and deep experience with common data science libraries and frameworks, such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end model development lifecycle, including best practices for version control, experimentation, and validation.
- Experience developing and deploying AI models using a major cloud platform. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is strongly preferred.
- Strong technical leadership with experience driving complex data science projects from conception to deployment.
- Knowledge of clinical data standards, such as OMOP, FHIR, DICOM, etc.
- Familiarity with clinical terminologies, such as ICD, SNOMED, LOINC, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Additional experience in any of the following is a significant plus: Natural Language Processing (NLP) with unstructured data, supporting regulatory or clinical validation processes, or applying model interpretability and fairness techniques.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
- Passion for improving healthcare outcomes and making a positive impact on society.
