Software Engineer (Remote)

Who We Are

Lucem Health’s mission is to help revolutionize diagnostic medicine. With our partner and investor Mayo Clinic, we will enable and support earlier disease detection, increased diagnostic efficiency, and greater patient agency.

“Lucem” is a Latin word meaning “bring the light of day.” Our platform helps diagnostic medicine focused AI and machine learning algorithms “see the light of day” by connecting these algorithms with patient telemetry data and delivering algorithm generated insights into clinical workflows… to the right stakeholder, in the right place, in the right context, at the right time.

Founded in 2021 through a collaboration between Mayo Clinic, Rally Ventures, and Commure (a General Catalyst company), Lucem Health is on a mission to revolutionize healthcare delivery with the practical application of clinical AI. We empower healthcare organizations to detect diseases at an earlier stage and identify patients who are undiagnosed, ultimately improving outcomes and optimizing limited clinical resources. We envision a future where proactive care enables problems to be detected before they become life threatening and patients get world class care, everywhere.

We are focused on helping providers deliver more proactive care by accelerating diagnosis and treatment. To do so, we’ve built a platform that connects patient data from varied sources with powerful, clinically focused AI algorithms and other advanced tools. We deliver the insights generated by these tools seamlessly into clinical workflow: to the right stakeholder, in the right place, in the right context, at the right time. We help clinicians and other stakeholders engage with, understand, trust, and adopt these tools so they see them as valuable partners that support better care and outcomes for patients.

We leverage this platform – Lucem Health Reveal – to deliver AI-enabled solutions, targeted at specific diseases, that deliver distinct and measurable clinical value propositions and financial benefits to our provider customers.

Job Description

At Lucem we’re turning raw clinical data into actionable insights and early disease detection solutions. Our data platform sits at the heart of everything we build, and we want a Software Engineer who can leverage the latest AI technologies to supercharge that foundation while maintaining our strict compliance standards. If you thrive on writing code, turning complex data requirements into production-ready ETL pipelines, automating data mapping to clinical data schemas, or validating data quality and readiness for downstream consumers, you will find a place here.

This position is remote. You will join a team comprised of other engineers and a product manager that are highly collaborative and meet face-to-face frequently.  You will be empowered to make decisions independently and take responsibility for those decisions. This position will require occasional travel to Raleigh, North Carolina or New York City, New York, or to other cities where there is, or will be, a critical mass of Lucem employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Customer Success and participate in customer meetings to provide technical expertise on data specifications and integration.
  • Design, develop, test and fix software to meet those needs.
  • Conduct data mapping and transformation on large raw healthcare datasets to produce standardized datasets.
  • Build a data platform that adheres to compliance standards, makes data accessible, and scales.
  • Design and build internal tooling and automation to accelerate the data implementations lifecycle.
  • Actively provide recommendations to the platform and our processes to continuously improve both.
  • Embrace the agile mindset by favoring small, simple, incremental changes to developing software.
  • Write internal documentation to keep software systems maintainable and meet compliance standards.
  • Perform validation of data outputs to ensure accuracy and relevance to clinical scenarios.
  • Embrace pushing technical boundaries by leveraging AI technologies to automate data mapping and transformation tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data inaccuracies or inconsistencies.
  • Analyze healthcare data sets to understand clinical context, build efficient data ingestion processes, and map available data elements to target schemas.
  • Translate complex technical data issues into clear explanations for non-technical customer stakeholders
  • Have fun doing what you love to do!

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field, or relevant experience in the Software Development field.
  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards, privacy and usage constraints, data protection, etc.
  • Ability to develop software using Go, Python, React or other programming languages.
  • Understanding of both relational (SQL) and document-based (noSQL) databases.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts and experience working with one of the following cloud providers: GCP, AWS, Azure (GCP as a preference)
  • A strong understanding of agile product development best practices, with experience being part of Agile delivery teams.
  • A servant leadership mindset; sees the team’s success as their success
  • A demonstrated ability to work autonomously and independently
  • A demonstrated ability to learn challenging or complex new domains, patterns, models, and technologies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and exceptional collaboration skills
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Experience in a client-facing technical role (e.g. Sales Engineer, Implementation Engineer) is a plus
  • Ability to explain complex data concepts to external stakeholders and customers

Communication Skills: Excellent ability to collaborate with diverse teams and present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
