This Week in Clinical AI Topics:

  • 0:31 Topic 1: Commentary on an interview with the president of the AMA about AI
  • 2:12 Topic 2: Combining Human Expertise with Artificial Intelligence: Experimental Evidence from Radiology
  • 5:20 Topic 3: Recent updates about generative AI in healthcare

Commentary on an interview with the president of the AMA about AI

The interview features perspectives from AMA President Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD on ChatGPT and its potential impacts on healthcare. Dr. Ehrenfeld notes both the potential upsides and possible risks of this technology. ChatGPT could aid clinical efficiency and medical education. But it also raises concerns about misinformation. Combining Human Expertise with Artificial Intelligence: Experimental Evidence from Radiology

The paper examines how AI and machine learning can be applied to improve the accuracy of medical diagnoses. This is new research into human-AI collaboration in radiology. The findings show it’s not as simple as combining human radiologists and AI. Doctors can neglect or misuse algorithm advice. In many cases, either the human or the AI alone makes the optimal diagnosis. Together, they often take longer and make mistakes. [2]

Recent updates about generative AI in healthcare

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the launch of AWS HealthScribe, a new AI-powered service for clinical documentation. [3]
  • Hippocratic AI, a healthcare startup, raised another $15 million in funding. [4]
