Job Description

Mayo Clinic and our founding team created Lucem Health in 2021 with its investor partners Commure (a General Catalyst company) and Rally Ventures. Our mission is to revolutionize care delivery through the practical application of clinical AI. Our vision is a world in which clinicians interact seamlessly with technology to diagnose diseases before they become life threating and provide patients with the best care, everywhere.

Our platform connects clinical data with powerful, clinically focused AI algorithms. We deliver the insights generated by these algorithms seamlessly into clinical workflows… to the right stakeholder, in the right place, in the right context, at the right time. And, we help clinicians and other stakeholders engage with, understand, trust, and adopt AI powered solutions so they see them as valuable partners that support better care and outcomes for patients.

While we have built a general-purpose platform for building and deploying clinical AI solutions (something we call “AI SolutionOps”), our focus is on solutions that help clinicians detect diseases earlier and accelerate treatment. These solutions leverage existing health records to pinpoint patients at risk for serious diseases in ways traditional methods cannot – allowing healthcare providers to deliver more proactive, higher value care.

Position Summary

Join our small fully-remote healthcare technology company, revolutionizing care delivery through the practical application of clinical AI. We enable clinicians to detect problems before they become life-threatening and ensure world-class care for patients everywhere. Our platform provides AI-enabled software solutions that deliver specific and measurable clinical value propositions and financial benefits to our customers, which include health systems and life sciences companies.

As a Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in developing our software products, specifically our Clinical AI, for healthcare provider organizations and life sciences companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with clinical experts, data engineers, and software developers to understand the business and clinical needs and translate them into data science solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy AI models that can analyze various types of data, such as medical images, lab results, electronic health records, etc., and identify potential risk factors, anomalies, or patterns that indicate the presence or progression of a disease.
  • Perform data analysis, data cleaning, data validation, and data visualization on large and complex healthcare datasets.
  • Ensure the quality, reliability, and scalability of the data science pipelines and the AI models.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of the AI models in production.
  • Communicate the results and insights of the data science projects to various stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and trends in data science and early disease detection.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in computer science, data science, statistics, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or deep learning, preferably in the healthcare domain.
  • Proficient in Python and common data science libraries and frameworks, such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.
  • Experience in developing and deploying AI models using cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Knowledge of clinical data standards, such as HL7, FHIR, DICOM, etc.
  • Familiarity with clinical terminologies, such as ICD, SNOMED, LOINC, etc.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for improving healthcare outcomes and making a positive impact on society.

This is a remote position reporting to a Development Manager. While our workforce is remote, occasional travel to customers, prospects, and our local hubs in Raleigh, North Carolina and Minneapolis, MN, or other cities may be required for collaboration with other members of the Lucem Health team.
